The MAX485 is a low-power transceiver that supports RS-485 and RS422 communication. The integrated circuit has one driver and one receiver. The MAX485 driver slew rates are not limited, allowing them to transmit up to 2.5Mbps. When empty or fully loaded with deactivated drivers, these transceivers demand between 120A and 500A of supply current. All components are powered by a single 5V supply. Drivers are short-circuited current restricted and protected from excessive power dissipation by thermal shutdown circuitry that puts the driver outputs in a high-impedance condition. If the receiver input is an open circuit, a fail-safe mechanism ensures a logic-high output. The MAX485 is intended for use in half-duplex applications.
